TBF 236 Beholding Beauty Part 3

Welcome to another episode of the Furnace, with Rob and Mo and unfortunately missing the enigmatic Pete. It was a one for one during Sorry not sorry with Rob starting out with a question about if Christ’s interaction with the Canaanite woman, more specifically in Matthew 15:21 -28, displayed racism.

Mo hit back asking how Rob would address Christians navigating modern day prophecy especially as there are schools of thought that believe prophets no longer function or exist post Christ’s ministry.

Not entirely sure this requires a trigger warning but we do find out both Man lyk and The man the gals lyk were initially all about the bosoms. They then go on to talk about what’s influenced and changed the features they find physically appealing about the opposite sex.

For our Hookups

Mo suggested checking out an app for watching anime called Crunchyroll, essentially the Netflix for anime. Have a look here www.crunchyroll.com

Rob suggested a board game called 5 second rule, a nice one for lockdown part two, have some fun here https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/games-puzzles-and-books/board-games/family-board-games/5-second-rule/p/175178

TBF 235 Sensitive Censorship

Welcome to another episode of the Blacksmith’s Furnace, with Rob, Pete and Man lyk Mo out here!! Following the news of the passing of Sean Connery we briefly discuss our favourite depictions of James Bond to start with. Here’s a quiz for the listeners, which incarnation of the super suave super spy is your fav. Mo then takes the hot seat and deals with an interesting hypothetical from Rob: If time travel is invented, would being able to go and see the crucifixion have a net negative or positive effect on Christianity? and Pete asks what Mo’s approach would be if dealing with someone who identifies as animesexual (Yep that’s an actual thing!).

We then go on to talk about a new Sky arts show that actually got cancelled not soon after it started due to one of the contestants having nazi related tattoos that were on display. Off of this we share our thoughts free speech and freedom of expression and the extent to which it should be defended despite how offensive or polarising it can be.

For our hookups,

Peter jumped in first with a new Netflix show called Blood of Zeus, check it out here https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/81001988

Mo also suggested checking out the latest season of Tokyo Ghoul, have a watch here https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/80023687

And Rob suggests an anime that has been suggested before Your lie in April available here https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/80041089

TBF 234 #EndSARS

It’s the triumphant return of the Bobby A after a couple weeks of silence, but that line is about as much fan fare as he’s going to get because there are some significantly more important things to discuss in this week’s episode.

After a group sorry not sorry discussing whether we need to transition from a Christian podcast, to a podcast by Christians, or if that is even a thing. We move on to talk about the despicable actions of the Nigerian government and police that have been going on recently.

Suffice it to say we are praying for and Nigeria and implore everyone to please research what’s happening, make as much noise about it as possible to bring awareness to what’s going on and visit some of the links below to see how you can help out.

TBF 233 It’s a Long ting!

Welcome to another episode of the furnace featuring the Heavy Hitters Man like Mo and yours truly Pete.

We kick things off trading blows during Sorry Not Sorry, Pete asked where the line should be drawn, for a Christian, between tolerance, and speaking THE truth and Mo shot back with question about the fairness of a Holy Almighty God placing the weight of living up to the unachievable standard of the Law on fallen man!

Inspired by the upcoming “exhibition” match between legends and hall of famers Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr and the fact that despite being very very far past their primes, they are both looking exceedingly impressive in their training for the upcoming bout, we go on to talk about longevity and what we are working on with hopes of being able to still work on and maybe be great at long into our old age.

Speaking of old age, Pete wants to hook you up with a cheap and cheerful, but highly functional fitness tracker so you can stay healthy and strong long into your old age. Check out the Xiaomi Mi band 5 here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Xiaomi-Band-Health-Fitness-Tracker/dp/B089NS9JW2/ref=sr_1_3?adgrpid=79997968788&dchild=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwz6_8BRBkEiwA3p02Vfblf_Wb_jKbxYm_JvLOxW9YsKbsmCpTgJGHtcyN0II4rL4FBeqOSxoCEOIQAvD_BwE&hvadid=354241654768&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9045859&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=15970021128838458249&hvtargid=kwd-305066368702&hydadcr=4177_1794984&keywords=xiaomi+mi+band+5&qid=1603052196&sr=8-3&tag=googhydr-21

And Mo wants to hook all the husbands up with a book that looks to address sex and love and the marital basis for all these to flourish in the book Sex Romance and the Glory of God, it’s next on Pete’s list so check it out for yourself here https://www.pdfdrive.com/sex-romance-and-the-glory-of-god-what-every-christian-husband-needs-to-know-e156645273.html

TBF 232 Beholding Beauty Pt 2

Welcome to another episode of the Blacksmith’s Furnace. This week join the hardest hitting two thirds of the furnace, The heavy hitters Mo and Pete, as they address the topic of physical aesthetics and the definition of beauty in the world and church today!

It was again shot for shot during Sorry Not Sorry today. Pete threw out the same question as he did last week asking Mo to provide a defence for what he believes regarding salvation and Mo asks Peter how Abraham marrying his half sister Sarah when the bible explicitly states such should not happen!

We then go on to talk about beauty and it’s definition in society today, and how social media and our faith should inform that definition. It was particularly interesting to see how the same topic generated a similar but uniquely different conversation between Pete and Mo than it did between Rob and Pete.

For our hookups Pete suggested checking out the Prophecy Pros podcast wherever you listen to podcasts, as the name suggests it’s a podcast about biblical prophecy and it’s relevance in society today!

He also suggested checking out a great book, The Last Eve: Mystery of Sanctification by Shan Lu.

It’s a great read, written by a lovely lady of God with a passion to see people has a life transforming relationship with God!! so definitely check it out!! It’s available on Amazon here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Last-Eve-Mystery-Sanctification-Book/dp/B08HT864QY/ref=sr_1_1?crid=E3X9R7Q43TUS&dchild=1&keywords=mystery+of+sanctification+shan+lu&qid=1602364051&sprefix=shan+Lu+the+mystery+%2Caps%2C162&sr=8-1

Mo also suggested checking out the video that sparked Pete’s Sorry not Sorry question and challenges you to also think about how you would communicate the gospel to those around you!

TBF 230 Finesse (Remix) feat. Kirk Franklin

This year has indeed been a weird one. Outside of the global pandemic and all the devastation that’s brought, we’ve seen the Black Lives Matter movement come to a head with George Floyd and now we watch the murder of an innocent black woman go unpunished by the law and we are left asking what’s the price of a life.

Rob was in the hot seat and tackled questions on what churches today would illicit a similar response from Christ as when he popped off in the temple, and if Lot was justified in his attempt to trade his daughters for the two strangers.

We then go on to talk about whether or not Kirk Franklin is the ultimate “finesser” in Gospel music. (It’s not as bad as it seems)

For our hookups

Rob suggested checking out a song by Justin Bieber and Chance the Rapper called Holy, check it out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvPsJFRGleA

Mo then suggested checking out a Lo-fi Hip hop artist Nokiaa check out his work here https://open.spotify.com/artist/0ikgHu560bYMZOOXFQnRLN

and Pete suggested checking out a cheap and cheerful pair of headphones that are such a good deal the Marley little bird headphones.

TBF 229 From PS5 to Prison

Welcome to another episode of the Furnace, Mo took the Hot seat this week and Pete came swinging with questions about the holiness or lack thereof in the choice to purchase a PS5 and Rob follwoed with a question about earthly possessions and riches and how to discern if they’re from God or the enemy.

We go on to talk about the Justice system in the UK and new propositions to lower the qualifying age for Death penalties to 18. This lead to a discussion about if 18 years is truly long enough to call one an adult.

For our Hookups Mo suggests that everyone buys a PS5, these sentiments are not shared by the entirety of the Furnace or the Ordinary Amazing. Peter suggested checking out a podcast called Process about productivity check it out here https://effectiveremotework.com/category/process/

In an act of defiance Peter also suggested checking out an interview that Mo was a part of on Instagram discussing male sexuality: Check it out here https://www.instagram.com/tv/CFIZ6_4JerR/?igshid=19xk8nwve5ltx

and Rob suggested checking out a restaurant called My Old Dutch who do all kinds of pancakes! have a nibble here http://www.myolddutch.com/

TBF 227 Long Live the King

Last week the world was shocked by the passing of Chadwick Boseman, the surprise being made all the worse by the revelation that in private he had battled colon cancer for the past 4 years all the while bringing us great movies, the most impactful being Marvel’s Black Panther.

Today we discuss death, legacy and the impact he and Black Panther had on our lives and on society and we talk about giving roses to those around us while we can, and working through pain to achieve one’s goals and purpose.

Rob took the hot seat during Sorry Not Sorry and discussed the hypothetical question, what if Jesus isn’t God, and Peter asked him how he’d practically lived out his Christianity that day! Continue reading TBF 227 Long Live the King

TBF 226 A Great Conversation

  The Blacksmith’s Furnace · TBF 226 A Great Conversation

Welcome to another episode of the Blacksmith’s Furnace. In today’s conversation we talk about greatness and our relationship with trying to achieve it as men and as Christians.

Mo also kicked the episode off in the hot seat for Sorry not Sorry telling us about his favourite verse and his thoughts on if the ark of the covenant would still kill people who touched it post Christ’s ministry, death and resurrection. Continue reading TBF 226 A Great Conversation
